Showdown Time, boys...
06.22.04 (10:08 pm)   [edit]
This is going to be a blog that most people don't care about, but what the hell, it's as much a part of me as anything else. So take it and like it! Anyway, standard updates...

I'm healthy! I know, amazing. Still jobless though. All in all, enjoying life.

As for those Hot Shit Reunion murmurs, as one of my friends so elequantly put it, they're completely true. I feel quite blessed.

Going to be in ISU for a few days this weekend, but I'll be home in time for wrestling Saturday. What? You don't know what I'm talking about? Wrestling??? Oh yeah baby. Newmidwest.com That's what I'm talkin about. Free plug for my boys.

Now on to the main topic of discussion for the moment. I'm going up to ISU to compete with my boys in a video game for about a day straight. What game, you ask? Legends of Wrestling: Showdown. New wrestling game featuring some of my all time favorite wrestlers. Needless to say, there will be a lot of competition and hopefully, a lot of beer as well.

Anyway, I thought I'd pay homage to some of my favorite characters of all time: Wrestlers. Here are a few of my favorites and why. Told you that you wouldn't be interested in this...

Jake "The Snake" Roberts: The greatest heel of all time. Thankfully, he's in the game. The man's wrestling ability left something to be desired, but he had that uncanny ability that few wrestlers do to make you question whether he was acting or if he really was that evil a man. He'd probably have you believe he's evil.

Bret "Hitman" Hart: A man much closer to my size, physically. He was a great technical wrestler and, regardless of what you believe, there's actually an art and skill to wrestling. Plus he had cool sunglasses.

Shawn Michaels: HBK. He was the charismatic guy I wanted to be like. Yeah, laugh all you want. He was a stud. And he was a great wrestler. And for a lot of his career, he was a heel. A great tag team wrestler and a great singles competitor, he's pretty much won anything you can win.

Raven: Quoting Edgar Allen Poe, old school Raven was the master of psychology. He was hardcore and was a heel that would win, cleanly. Clean wins are hard to come by for heels. Later he grew dredds and then shaved them and started wearing a skirt. We forget those days.

Taz: A 5'6 monster, he was capable of picking up any man and dumping them on their head. A real tough guy, he's a new yorker (hell yeah!) who grew up a couple blocks from where my dad grew up (oh helllllll yeah!). He's getting screwed as an announcer now, but in his prime, 300 pound monsters were nothing to Taz. Plus he had a great catchphrase.

Tommy Dreamer: Long time readers of my stuff, going way back to Anecs days, know that I think of myself as a Tommy Dreamer. He was the good guy that most everyone loved. He was willing to give everything he had, including his physical well being. He has had at least 14 documented concussions in his career and probably a few more. Tommy never won the big one though. It made him all the more likeable.

Hope you've enjoyed this small look into my wrestling heroes. There are a few others worth mentioning, but not as in-depth: Sting, Sabu, RVD, Steve Corino, Rhyno, Demolition, Rick Rude, and many many more. If you really want to hear about them, shoot me some email.

Song of the Moment: "Stained Glass Cross" By Down. Which I think happens to be a fine name, despite what Poon will tell you.

Until Then...Beat me If you can, Surive...If I let you.

Burning and Building Bridges
06.10.04 (9:13 pm)   [edit]
Alright, got lots of stuff going on these days. I suppose I should get right into it, but I won't just yet. A quick personal update is in order, wouldn't you say?

I'm still sick! Damnit! Something's up with my eyes as well. Nasty redness going on like I've been up all night and drinking. But I haven't! Really! It's been some time since I've been drunk or even had much to drink. Sickness takes it out of you...

I'm somewhat sad to report that the CD I had been looking forward to for quite some time, Velvet Revolver, is a bit disappointing. But, I'm forcing myself to listen to it more and it gets better each time. If nothing else, I have Slash to listen to. Can't go wrong with that.

More music coming from me soon. As you might expect from the title of this post, there's been some junk, both good and bad going on. Such inspirations. Rest assured, more will be told about these songs as they come. Good for some, bad for others. You know what I'm saying.

Alright boys and girls...good news first or bad news? Well, that's not exactly the right way to put it. Burning or Building, which would you prefer? Hmm...I'd rather save the positive for last, let's go with the Burn first.

To the Burnt Bridge: Well, as most of you know, I don't prefer to name names. It just isn't fitting with my style and it works better for later in case I have to deny. Ha! Let's say there's a girl I liked for the better part of, hmm, two years? Yes, that narrows it down, doesn't it? Well, it appears things are done, friendly or otherwise, between us. I haven't had much nice to say about her, nor she towards me. It appears this bridge is burnt, for good.

I don't feel too bad about it.

We had been going our separate ways for some time now. I don't know that we ever had that much in common, anyway. I'm not going to berate her here. We had some damn good times...and some times that felt quite like hell, to me at least. I've loved her dearly and a part of me will always feel for her, but I'm not hurt by our separation. Maybe someday I'll regret, but for now, I see it as the ending that has been prolonged since damn near Christmas time.

My only real problem with it is that I appear to have cut ties with her damn good friend in the process. She had become a damn good friend to me as well, but it doesn't appear that that will continue. Unfortunate, to be sure. Can't do anything about that now...there's no bridge to cross back over, and I wouldn't even if there was.

Yeah Yeah, Newbie wins. Leave me alone. Heheheheh

On to positively good news.

It appears that there could be a Hot Shit reunion in the works. If you don't know what Hot Shit is, it's the name that Glen gave to the greatest tag team on earth: a.k.a. Me and Luck.

Yep, you heard it right. Luck and I have opened the lines of communications again. I can't speak for him, but I think there's a piece of us that was missing without each other around. There are only so many friends in one lifetime that you can honestly say you know inside and out. I dare say we felt that way.

I know I did a lot of tearing down of what he and I had. I take my blame for that and as he knows, I've apologized since then. I'd like to do so again. The fact of the matter is, I've made some terrible choices and said some terrible things. I can only hope that things can become even a shadow of what they once were. And I truly, TRULY, wish you and Natty the best. God Bless you both.

My Song of the Moment: Hmm, I have two. One for the Burning bridge side, "Shinobi Vs. Dragon Ninja" by the LostProphets. It's much better than it's name suggests. And "Summertime" by Will Smith. I missed it this year, but I hope that I'll hear it next year.

Until Then...Be Careful With Fire.

Congratulations, Competition and Sickness...
06.06.04 (8:33 pm)   [edit]
Oh yes, I have returned. Important stuff out of the way first.

Congratulations to the New Mr. and Mrs. Morgan. What a marvelous ceremony. Hope everything continues to go well for as long as you both live.

Enough sappiness. The wedding was great fun, as was the reception. I'm so tired, not to mention getting sick. Good friends, good beer, and maybe most importantly, good dancing. Ok, so I wasn't really in on the good dancing part. But I was dancing, so that has to count for something...

On a completely different note, I claimed Detroit over L.A. in 7. Everyone heard it. Yeah, I originally claimed Minnesota would be in the Finals, but I've been telling everyone who'll listen that Detroit will win in 7. Trust me!

I hate being sick...dehydration setting in...

Onto the main topic of conversation: Competition. I'm a competitive person. Of course I am, I'm a guy, right? I love to win, but who doesn't? Well, winning is the ultimate goal, of course. And I'll give everything I can do achieve it. But, I have a couple of guidelines.

1) I play fair. Winning from cheating sucks. I feel empty when doing so. The only exception is wrestling. Heel all the way, baby.

2) I take care of my competitors. Usually this refers to basketball. I can't play with reckless abandon. I don't want to be hurt by someone else anymore than they want to be hurt by me. So I have respect for other competitors.

That said, I was in a great situation today. I came to a spot in any competition that is the greatest feeling in the world. It is basically a 1 on 1 situation where you realize that you are the better, stronger, competitor. And your opponent, no matter how good they may be, realizes it too.

I was in that place today. And I had to smile. I smiled at one of the other people around and they knew, I think. They saw it in my eyes and in my smile that I was better, and my opponent knew it too.

Sometimes, I think I live for that moment.

My Song of the Moment: White, Discussion by Live.

Until Then...Stay Healthy and Play Fair.
